Al's Mission

Watching Al Gore yesterday at the White House, I was struck by TV's obsession with whether he'll ever run for president. As much as I think he'd be terrific at it, he has a bigger mission. How very shallow of us to think the most important job he could have is president of the U.S. He has a global role now and the United States, while hugely important on the world stage, isn't the only player. The person who convinces China and other countries to curb their pollution is most likely not going to be an American politician but rather someone who has transcended day-to-day politics.
